The Eternal Plan, Not a Last-Minute Fix

I was talking to a family member this week about one of my favorite passages in scripture from Acts 17:26-27…

For I know, and have determined the allotted period of time in history I have chosen for you, and the exact place where you should live, so that you will reach out to me and find me. Though, I’m not far from  you.” (My paraphrase)

Then today I was reading in 1 Peter and came on a quietly profound verse in 1 Peter 1:20. It says that,  “Christ was chosen before the creation of the world but revealed in these last times for our sake”. The more I sit with that, the more it shifts how I see… everything. It’s not just about His purpose and plan for my life. It’s more about how and when He chose to love me… before He created the world!

It challenges this idea that God is reactive—like He saw humanity fall apart and had to scramble for a solution. Instead, it paints a picture of intention. Of planning. Of love that existed before anything else did. Before mistakes, before history, before me. That’s a strange and comforting thought at the same time.

If that’s true, then redemption isn’t an afterthought. It’s not damage control. It’s part of the original design.

And then there’s the second part of the verse—the timing. “Revealed… for your sake.” Not just humanity in general, but something that feels personal. Like this truth isn’t just floating out there in history; it’s meant to intersect with my life right now, in whatever season I’m in.

That makes me wonder how often I overlook what’s already been revealed to me. How often I assume I’m behind, or missing something, when maybe I’m actually standing in the exact moment I’m supposed to be in.

There’s also something deeper here about love. If Christ was chosen before creation, then love wasn’t a reaction to human failure—it was foundational. Built into the very structure of existence. That changes the way I think about worth. It means my value isn’t something I earn or lose depending on how well I’m doing. It’s tied to something much older, much steadier.

Honestly, I don’t fully understand it. But I feel it.

It makes me want to trust more—that there’s a bigger story unfolding, even when my piece of it feels confusing or incomplete. It reminds me that I’m not an accident in the timeline, and that whatever God is doing didn’t start with me and won’t end with me either.

And somehow, instead of making me feel small, that makes me feel held.
